Your hair is literally the crown on your overall beauty. However, your lustrous locks have degenerated into limp tresses ever since your move to Jeddah. The country’s climate and water may have a lot to do with it. We list the things you can do to arrest hair loss and maintain scalp health:
#1 Get a hair loss treatment if hair fall is severe.
Most women suffering hair loss fail to take preventive action on time. As a result, the hair loss becomes difficult to treat and arrest. If you notice that you have excessive hair loss, itchy or flaky scalp, thinning hair, or other problems ever since you moved to Jeddah, then you must take quick action. Get a hair loss treatment in Jeddah’s leading skin and hair care clinics from reputed doctors who have a good track record of treating various hair and scalp problems. The doctor can even find hidden medical conditions that may be causing excessive hair fall, such as poor blood supply to the scalp, disorders like PCOS/PCOD, anaemia, etc.
#2 Do not brush or comb your hair excessively.
Our elders tell us to brush our hair 100 times a day – it is said to be good for blood circulation to the scalp. But this could be detrimental to your hair health if the roots are weak, or if you have dandruff, or if your hair is limp and prone to easy breakage. In fact, avoid using a comb or hairbrush more than twice a day, and keep your hair loosely tied up so that it will not tangle. Excessive brushing can cause tangling, knotting, secretion of sebum into the scalp, disruption of the scalp’s natural pH balance, and so on. Do not press the comb or brush bristles hard into the scalp, and use gentle strokes to remove any tangles.
#3 Get a hot oil massage every week.
The scalp is a part of the skin, and it needs constant nourishment and hydration so that hair roots can become stronger and properly anchored. A healthy scalp leads to healthy, glossy hair that does not fall or break easily. The best way to hydrate and nourish the skin is to offer it a hot oil massage every week, or once a fortnight. Get a professional masseuse to administer the massage so that they may target the right pressure points. The oil used is normally coconut oil or olive oil, and warming it opens up the scalp and allows the oil to penetrate deep within. Meanwhile, the massaging action stimulates blood circulation to the scalp, which is beneficial for root and shaft strength. A massage spanning 30 to 45 minutes should suffice, followed by steam therapy and a wash with cold water.
#4 Eat well and sleep enough.
Your hair is stronger and bouncier when the scalp is less stressed out. The best way to reduce stress and its ill effects on the skin and hair, is to provide the scalp and skin with adequate nutrition and hydration every day. Ensure that your diet contains all the major food groups and nutrients, so that the same can be processed by the body to nourish all the major organs such as the skin. Along with a balanced diet full of leafy greens and seasonal fruit, make sure that you drink at least one litre of water per day to provide hydration and aid in the transport of nutrients in the body. Another way to reduce the effects of stress on the hair is to get at least seven hours of good quality sleep every night. The better your quality of sleep, the better your scalp performs in terms of retaining hydration and nutrition.
#5 Get regular exercise.
An underrated way of maintaining scalp health is to get regular exercise. Exercise adds more oxygen to the bloodstream, thus ensuring that better quality blood nourishes the scalp. It also removes toxins from the body way of sweat through the scalp and rest of the skin. Meanwhile, it revs up the circulatory and metabolism systems – in the long run, these are great for scalp and hair health. Aim to incorporate as much cardio exercise in your workouts as possible.
